MEET ME AT THE MANGER!
An imaginary trip to Bethlehem is accomplished by individuals in the church and community who log their own walking (or jogging or treadmill) miles each week beginning Sept. 5th, add them to the miles walked by other participants, and collectively try to accumulate enough miles to reach Bethlehem in time for the celebration of Christ’s birth on Dec. 25th.
Fashioned after the "Walk to Jerusalem / Walk to Bethlehem" programs developed by the parish nursing team of St. John Health System in Michigan, The St John's Walking Program is designed to increase the physical, emotional and spiritual health of participants. An imaginary trip to Bethlehem is accomplished by individuals within the church and community who log their own walking (or jogging or treadmill, etc.) miles each week, add them to the miles walked by other participants, and collectively try to accumulate enough miles to reach a specific destination. Every 20 minutes of continuous activity (dance class, soccer practice, bicycling, etc. also count) is worth one mile toward our goal!
Invite your family and friends to walk with you... form a walking group with other participants in the program, to increase your motivation by holding each other accountable ... Or, encourage healthy competition with classmates or colleagues at work!
Here’s your personal mileage card to get you started...
