Sophia Flores serves as an educator and saxophonist throughout California. Sophia is a versatile artist, devoted to the repertoire of developing composers, as well as renowned works of saxophone literature. She is most widely known for her classical saxophone styles, but additionally showcases flexibility in contemporary facets. Sophia is recognized for not only her musical abilities and passion as a saxophone player, but as a disciplined oboist as well.
Sophia has attained her Bachelors of Arts in Music Education and Saxophone Performance, and is additionally in-pursuit of a single-subject music teaching credential. She has studied saxophone with Jay Mason, Andrew Harrison, and Stacy Maugans, and has additionally studied oboe with Siri Lyon.
Sophia serves as the Choir Director at Light of Christ Lutheran Church, and works as an Instrumental Coach at Crean Lutheran High School. In the summers of 2021 and 2022, Sophia was a Saxophone Fellow for the Lutheran Summer Music Camp. As a devoted teacher, Sophia additionally holds a private saxophone studio, and is a woodwind teacher at Guitar Center and St. John’s Conservatory for the Arts. At Concordia University Irvine, Sophia has used her passion as an educator to serve as a section leader for the Concordia Choir, and as the Jazz Librarian on behalf of the Orchestra Management Team. Sophia has additionally used her gifts to begin the first-ever saxophone ensemble at Concordia University Irvine.
