MOPS FAQ's
What is a typical session like?
MOPS mornings begin with an 8:20am drop-off of children ages 0-5 to their MOPPETS class. Here they will enjoy their own program under the supervision of the MOPPETS childcare workers. MOPS moms then meet in the Dining Room at 8:30am where you will sit with your small group (each mom is assigned to a small group of about 8-10 women, complete with a table leader to oversee the needs of the group). We will also have a Mentor Mom at each table to provide one-on-one support when needed. Meetings begin with a short prayer followed by a potluck hot breakfast (small groups take turns bringing food). Welcome, greetings, announcements, fun and games come next. Around 9:30am, an invited resource speaker will share or we will work on a craft or special planned activity. We start winding down with discussion time at about 10:30am and are dismissed by 11:00am to pick up our MOPPETS.
Who steers these sessions?
The MOPS program is run by a volunteer Steering Committee headed by the Coordinator; all members of the Steering Committee are MOPS moms. Every year, motivated moms step up to become MOPS leaders. Our leaders provide the backbone to create a successful program as an integral part of Women’s Ministries here at St. John’s. We are dedicated both behind and in front of the scenes to make MOPS a fun, supportive and rewarding experience for everyone!
Are there any special events?
Special events outside the regular MOPS sessions are put together either as a small group event or an overall MOPS group event. Examples of these activities are: playdates at the park, moms night out, family night out, special family events and couples date nights. We also plan fundraising events to help support our MOPS program. These range from restaurant events to garage sales, special speaker nights and boutiques. Fun is a requirement at any of these events!
What is Moppets?
Our Moppets program is not just 2 1/2 hours of “baby-sitting.” It is a quality program designed specifically to care for the needs of infants, preschoolers and kindergartners. Every Moppets morning is filled with stories, games, songs, crafts, art projects and playtime. A snack will be provided.
MOPPETS cares...
• That a child feels good about himself
• That a child knows and experiences the love of God
• That a child receives quality care and teaching
Moppets teachers help shape the future through their input of Christian love and teaching. Dividing the children into age groups allows each child to socialize with other little ones of similar skill and interest level. Planned activities contribute to the child’s:
• Social growth through group play and participation
• Physical and creative development through games, crafts and exercise
• Spiritual enrichment through Bible stories and music
•Childcare space is limited, so be sure to register early to secure a spot in the Moppets Program for your little ones. Acceptance is based on a first-come, first-served basis. If Moppets is full, and you can find alternative childcare, you are still welcome to attend the MOPS meetings!
