You may not have seen a lot of work being done on the outside of the Sanctuary since the scaffolding was removed, but a number of efforts are being planned before the completion of our restoration project. Finish painting, installation of a new handicap ramp, and final cleaning will be occurring towards the latter half of October.
Finish work is the focus on the interior of the Sanctuary. All of the fire sprinklers, new lighting, and finish painting have been completed. The scaffolding inside the building is being removed this week. Once removed, work will begin on restoration of the wood floors and refinishing of the wall wainscoting will continue. Last week our audio-visual vendor completed the installation of the new speakers at the ceiling level.
Many other finish-work projects are occurring offsite as well. The pews, choir chairs, altar chairs, bride’s room chairs, clock, and all brass items are with our refinishers to restore them to a new finish. We are starting to receive many of these items back and we are placing them in safe and secure storage until they return to the Sanctuary. The final tie-in to the city water system for the fire sprinklers will begin near the middle of October. This will require the corner of Almond and Center to be dug up. We will keep you posted on traffic and use impact to that area once we have the final start date for this project from the city.
The refurbished locker rooms have been in use by the school for the past few weeks. The wheelchair lift that will provide handicap access to these new restroom areas will be installed in mid-October, which will mark the completion of the Walker Hall restroom/locker room project. The new men’s and women’s facilities will be available for use at the time of the Sanctuary reopening.
Walker Hall fire sprinkler installation is nearing also completion. The last major piece is installation of sprinklers for the Auditorium stage which is well underway. Final water supply tie-in is scheduled for mid-October. All finish, trim and touch up will also be completed by that time.

Things look great, but tight up front. There's still room for handbells, right? I get a lot of friends to church because of them! And orchestra at Christmas, too.
