August 31st -September 2nd were the dates of St. John’s 5th annual Labor Day Weekend Street Fair Outreach. There were lots of activities on campus designed to reach out to those in our community!
This year the heat of the weekend really kept many people away. However, we handed out 6,000 bottles of water. We met our goal of reaching over 500 people in our Fine Art exhibit by SEEDS. We hosted 170 in worship on Sunday night and we had about 100 visitors go through our sanctuary tours. Forty-six prayer cards were completed and left in our prayer boxes during the prayer vigil on Saturday and Sunday!
As with every year, this outreach is sometimes difficult to measure. I believe God's love through this weekend of work and kindness went a long way in the hearts and minds of many.
As I stood on the corner for my shift, I was reminded of this as one gentleman stopped and shared with me a story from his personal life. I was able to listen and to encourage him. Only after this exchange did he share with me that he really wanted to get more involved with his faith and his desire to know more about our congregation.
Only heaven knows what was truly accomplished for the Kingdom of Jesus Christ throughout this weekend ministry. But be sure, heaven knows.
