“But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.”
I love this verse in Luke chapter 2. It is surrounded by the excitement of the Shepherds, the glory of the angels, and of course trying to guess which barn animals were present there for the birth, but we get a special glimpse into the mother of Jesus here. We get to see the depth of her character, how it was calm and deep, spiritually receptive and strong, steady and full of love. In the original Greek, the heart was the place not just of emotions but of the entire personality, will, mind, and emotions. Mary’s entire presence was focused on Jesus.
During this Christmas season, set aside time to treasure up all these things of Christ’s birth and ponder them in your heart. Sit back during Christmas and look at the faithfulness of God in your life, the hope He brings to your future, and marvel in wonder at what He has done, is doing and will continue to do in Jesus!
Merry Christmas!
