WHAT IS BAPTISM? 
Baptism is a way (or means) by which God gives us
His grace and mercy.
1. It is commanded by God. In
the Bible Jesus told His followers to, “Go and make disciples of all people, Baptizing them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
2. It is the Holy Spirit who Baptizes us into one body. Pastors say the words and pour the water.
“We are all Baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, salve or free—and we were all given on Spirit to drink” (1Corinthians 12:13)
3. Baptism WASHES OUR SINS AWAY. So, WE SHOULD NOT WAIT to get Baptized.
God’s holy Apostles said, “Now what are you waiting for? Get up, be Baptized and wash your sins away as you call on Jesus name. (Acts 22:16)
4. Baptism is one of the ways that God gives us His grace and mercy, which SAVE US by the Power of God’s Holy Spirit who washes us clean.
[God] saved us, not because of righteous things we have done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the WASHING OF REBIRTH and the renewal by the Holy Spirit.” (Titus 3:5)
5. In Baptism we put on Christ. We are clothed by Christ so that God does not see our sins, but sees only Jesus perfect righteousness. We are new creations.
“For all of you who were Baptized into Christ have CLOTHED yourselves with Christ. (Gal.3:27) If anyone is in Christ, he is a NEW CREATION; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." (2 Cor 5:17)
6. In Baptism we are united with Christ.
“Don’t you know that all of us who were Baptized into Christ Jesus were Baptized into His death? We were therefore buried with Him through Baptism into death in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too might live a new life. If WE HAVE BEEN UNITED WITH HIM like this in His death, we will certainly also be united with Him in His resurrection.” (Romans 6:3-5) 7.
When we are Baptized:
A. We are Baptized BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.
B. Our SINS are WASHED AWAY.
C. We are SAVED BY THE POWER OF GOD’S SPIRIT.
D. We are Baptized INTO CHRIST JESUS and so CLOTHED WITH CHRIST.
E. We become a NEW CREATION
F. We are UNITED WITH JESUS CHRIST and the sinful part of us DIES with JESUS.
The sinful part of us is buried and a NEW CREATION, a new person rises with Jesus.
