The best preparations for a funeral are done ahead of time, but most people don’t do this.
We have provided a Checklist of things that you might need to consider. The first two are very important.

1. Contact the Pastoral Care office at (714) 288-4432 to set the date and time for the funeral arrangements. If you need help in finding a mortuary, we can recommend some to you. If you need this help after hours, call (714) 288-4400 and dial the emergency number and we can refer you to a local mortuary.

2.Contact a mortuary to take care of your loved one. You will also need to plan funeral and burial arrangements with them and tell them that you will be working with St. John’s Lutheran church.

For a Funeral or Memorial worship service at St. John's, the staff needs only a few things from you in order to prepare an appropriate bulletin:

A. Two or three Bible passages that you and your loved ones would like read.

B. Three or four hymns from the Lutheran Service Book or approved (by our Worship and Music Council) solos to take the place on one or two of the hymns

If choosing Bible passages or hymns is difficult for you,our Pastoral staff would be glad to help you.  We can give you some options or select what is needed for you.

With the Bible passages and the hymns, we add the appropriate liturgy and prayers to make the service uplifting and God-honoring.
